Saturday Kevin Sisneros threw a benefit breakdance battle for Shalyse Lopez who is awaiting a kidney transplant. “Showdown for Sha” was held at the Murray Boys and Girls Club June 30th. While DJ Aspect played music, 2 man crews battled for a win of $100.
Many dancers and friends came and showed their support, including the Bboy Federation who donated $5 of each shirt sale to the event. “Many people gave money and time to this cause” said Joshua Perkins co-founder of the Bboy Fed, “it was great to see our dance scene in Utah supported this event.”
Over 20 crews signed up; each containing a heavyweight and a lightweight dancer. There were a lot of fun battles to watch, and out of all the dancers rocking the beats and hitting their moves both in the battles and in cyphers on the side.
Black and Yellow Crew took the win against Tony Danza’s Tap Dance Extravaganza Crew. Good job to all the crews that battled, it’s great to have such a supportive scene here in Utah.
