Need a boost?
Feel tired?
Gotta perform in a few minutes? [divider]
-> Gimme an energy drink!
In the last few years, energy drinks have become more popular than ever. You see them everywhere. Clubs, supermarkets, events and night shops. The vending machine at your school/office is offering them and your friend has a supply stacked in his fridge. Energy drinks are EVERYWHERE.
“I like the taste”. You think you do. The biggest energy drink out there, Red Bull, has been researched and officially resulted in a “bad” to “very bad” taste.
“I like the taste”. You think you do. The biggest energy drink out there, Red Bull, has been researched and officially resulted in a “bad” to “very bad” taste. People don’t do it for the taste; they’re primarily addicted to the boost.
Bboys like it too. Just did 2 battles and had to wait 3 hours? Your body’s cold and could use a boost. An energy drink might help.
I’m here to tell you that energy drinks are not what we need. Bboys and bgirls use very explosive power to do what they do. Even if you’re a fast footworker, you gotta get that speed from somewhere.
I’m not saying they’re a bad thing, and I’m not here to discourage anyone who wants to drink them because they like it. I’m just wondering if we dancers really need the same drink 16-year old girls in the club and people sitting behind a computer screen in the office use for a boost. Clearly, bboys need more than that. So why aren’t we aware?
It’s not because brands are sponsoring top athletes with an energy drink that that’s what they’re using to boost themselves. Have you ever talked to any of these athletes? More than half of them have never even touched energy drinks. It’s all about marketing and reaching the mainstream. I have no problem with Red Bull sponsoring an athlete to get normal people to drink energy drinks. I have a problem with dancers and athletes from our culture thinking that’s the way to go.[divider]
So what’s the next step? Bboys should be out there educating themselves about their body, sleep and nutrition. Many dancers aren’t occupied with these subjects. They think: “Just do what you feel”, and think going to McDonalds after practice is going to give them a nice style. Wrong.
Energy drinks aren’t bad, but they’re just the beginning. There is so much more you can do. And I’m talking about natural, healthy products that can get you to a new level.
The only question is: How far you’re willing to go?
How healthy do you want to be?
How high do you want to fly?
I recommend analyzing your diet and sleeping patterns. Are you in shape? Do you feel like you’re ahead of 95% of the population when it comes to these aspects? Only then can you start dancing and impressing those 95%.
Once you’re there, which isn’t hard to do (trust me, just look around you), I recommend researching and experimenting with supplements. This means adding more or “supplementing” anything you already naturally have in your body and bringing it up to the level you need to battle Bboy Lagaet or Pocket.
Good luck![divider]
