Who is 1520 Arts?
1520 ARTS is a 501c3 non-profit whose goal is to help grow the Hip Hop arts community in Utah by providing local artists and dancers with an opportunity to develop their skills. This is done through competitions, community outreach, performances and education. By providing a forum to unite artists and their families in passion for their art, participants in 1520 Arts are inspired to succeed not only on the dance floor, but in life itself.
Founded by James “Pyro” Karren and Joshua “Text” Perkins in 2008 1520 Arts began as a league style series of events. The league was structured so that it benefited the scene in terms of event quality & something that was cost effective for younger aged dancers. 2009 marked the first year of the league & brought with it the name THE BBOY FEDERATION. These events formed the foundation of what 1520 Arts would be built on. Now in 2021, 1520 Arts has thrown over 100 events, produced 6 stage productions and performed all over the state.
